other islands book fair

The Other Islands Book Fair is an annual event hosted by the Pratt Graduate Communication Design department  and serves as a vital platform for local publishers, community builders, designers, artists, and creatives who share a collective commitment to independent publishing to come together and showcase their work.

The brief asked for a system that embodied this idea structurally: a modular, animated logo as the primary mark, designed so its components could stand alone or reassemble into a unified whole, mirroring the fair’s role as a space where independent publishers, graduate scholars, and underrepresented narratives converge and build community outside the mainstream publishing sector. The identity needed to carry this relational logic across both digital and physical touchpoints, translating an academic and curatorial concept into a visual language flexible enough to hold many forms while staying legibly whole.

My proposal draws from literature and symbolism: John Donne's "No man is an island" inspired the theme of interconnectedness and our place within a mutually dependent human system, while the elephant-in-the-boa image from "The Little Prince" informs the visual language, representing boundless creativity and imagination. In an era where human impact on the world is defining, marked by climate uncertainty and political polarization, the work calls for solidarity and understanding of our shared system, using creativity as a force to build new "other islands" that support experimentation, connection, and critical discourse. This identity moves from different directions to coming together, using riso printing to reflect the low-cost, independent spirit of book fair publishing, hand-traced text and frame-by-frame animation to bring a human, handmade quality to the brand, and blurred lines between individuals and the whole to celebrate creative and relational entanglement, all in service of highlighting community building among the fair's diverse exhibitors, independent publishers, and Pratt's Graduate Students.

Orchard Street Jazz Festival

Orchard Street Jazz Festival is a multi-day celebration of contemporary jazz and creative music, running September 30th–October 5th and bringing together some of the genre's most forward-thinking artists for a series of intimate club performances. Organized by Closeup NYC in collaboration with D'Addario, the festival is designed to capture the current pulse of the jazz scene while pushing the music toward what's next. I created the festival's logo, developing a visual identity that reflects the energy and spirit of the lineup and event.

The design draws from the tiled signage found in New York City's subway stops, a visual style that's been part of the city for over a century. These tiles are historic and instantly recognizable, but they're also part of daily life, seen by millions of people passing through the city every day. That combination of history and everyday presence became the starting point for the logo. I created custom type based on the tiled signs, bringing that same sense of NYC history and everyday life into a mark for a festival rooted in the city's jazz legacy.

MERCHANDISE DESIGN & SCREENPRINTING

Together with the Art Director, I developed the design for the new merchandise line dropped in December 2026. Screenprinted in Brooklyn in December 2026, on blanks from Unbleached Apparel. All shirts are sustainably sourced and made of real unbleached and undyed cotton.

play it first

My graduate thesis investigated the concept of improvisation in design, using jazz as a case study to uncover the conditions that enable or foreclose it. The thesis argues that automation, efficiency-driven workflows, and digital tooling systematically remove the conditions improvisation requires, including physical engagement with materials, tolerance for productive failure, and the slow accumulation of embodied skill. Through analog processes and material-based exercises, the project tests whether these conditions can be deliberately reintroduced into design practice, and what capacities result from doing so, particularly comfort with ambiguity and responsiveness to emergent conditions.

Bringing together archival material, lyrics, and interviews, this project celebrates the Women of Rebetiko, urban music that emerged through the blending of musical traditions carried by Greek refugees from Anatolia with the sounds of local subcultures in the early 20th century. Women were central to the shaping of this music, yet they continue to be pushed to the margins of the scholarship surrounding it, their contributions overshadowed by the male figures more commonly celebrated in the genre's history. Through extensive research into the archives, drawing on primary sources such as recordings, photographs, and firsthand testimonies, this project seeks to recenter their voices and surface the stories, struggles, and artistry of women whose influence on rebetiko has too often gone unrecognized.research publication,

50 books | 50 Covers

exhibition design 2026

"50 Books x 50 Covers" was an exhibition commissioned by AIGA. Our group faced the challenge of showcasing 100 beautiful books within the exhibition space in a way that felt intentional rather than overwhelming. We landed on an indexical system that organized the books into a kind of spatial glossary: each book was marked with a numbered sticker from 1 to 100, giving visitors a clear way to navigate the space. On the wall, we displayed details generated from the submitted books, letting people flip through and get a closer sense of each publication's content. We also designed a large plotted drape poster presenting all 100 books as a literal index, and compiled nearly 50 videos of the books being paged through into a looping projection.
